LTC & LCC Assessment Skills (CBTA) Course
This two-day, online course develops the practical training and assessment skills required by Line Training Captains (LTCs) and Line Check Captains (LCCs) operating under Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) principles. Participants will learn to observe, evaluate and develop pilot competencies in the line environment, and to deliver briefings and debriefings that produce meaningful, evidence-based feedback rather than a simple pass/fail judgement.

Line Training Captains, Line Check Captains, and any instructor or examiner pilot responsible for training or assessing flight crew during line operations.
What you'll learn
The regulatory and operational basis for CBTA, and how it differs from traditional, event-based checking
The pilot competency framework, including application of procedures, communication, leadership and teamwork, problem-solving and decision-making, situation awareness, workload management, and flight path management (manual and automation)
How to recognise and record observable behavioural indicators against each competency
Principles of objective, evidence-based assessment, and how to avoid common rating biases
Structured briefing and debriefing techniques that support open, two-way feedback
Course structure
Day 1 focuses on the theory: an introduction to CBTA and the competency framework, how to identify and document behavioural indicators, and the principles behind fair, consistent assessment. The day also focuses on briefing and debriefing techniques in the context of pilot line training and checking.
Day 2 is entirely practical. Participants apply what they've learned through role-played line training and checking scenarios, conducting live briefings and structured, competency-based debriefs, with peer and facilitator feedback throughout to calibrate their assessment standards.
